Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve has issued the following statement regarding the passing of John Ascuaga:

On behalf of the entire City of Reno — our Reno City Council, employees and residents — today I send my deepest condolences to the friends and family of the incomparable John Ascuaga.

Mr. Ascuaga was a prominent philanthropist and business leader in our local casino industry, including his scholarship program which provided support to northern Nevada students for over half a century.

He is a Nevada icon and will be truly missed, but his contributions to northern Nevada will live on.
