Lockdown Lifted At Hunter Lake Elementary; Two Suspects Sought

A Reno elementary school was on code yellow lockdown, according to a report on Monday.

RENO, NV - A Reno elementary school is on lockdown due to police presence in the area, KRNV reported on Monday. According to the station, Hunter Lake Elementary is on code yellow lockdown stemming from a police presence in the area.

Patch Media has reached out to Reno Police for comment. This is a developing story.

UPDATE (1:30 p.m.): A Washoe County School District spokesperson confirmed to Patch that the lockdown at Hunter Lake Elementary has been lifted. Washoe County Sheriff PIO Bob Harmon said that the search has been called off and investigators are attempting to locate the two suspects using other means.

UPDATE (12:53 p.m.): The lockdown was issued as a public safety precaution, according to Washoe County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Bob Harmon.

According to Harmon, Washoe County Sheriff's K-9 unit was attempting to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for currently unknown reasons. The vehicle chose to flee the scene in near Riverside Dr. and Vine St. The suspect in the vehicle got into a "minor traffic accident" with another vehicle and continued to flee. Officers pursued the vehicle until it reached the area of Reno High School and chose to "terminate the pursuit as a matter of public safety," Harmon said.

The vehicle was located shortly after by Reno Police Department officers near the 2300 block of Westfield Ave. The vehicle was unoccupied and a weapon was found next to the vehicle. Harmon said law enforcement is currently seeking two suspects involved in the incident. The first is described as a white adult male wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. The second is described as a Hispanic female wearing a white hoodie and jeans.

Law enforcement helicopters are being used to attempt to locate the two suspects.
