Older Americans Month in Reno will launch with an event in Somersett West Park on Monday, May 3 at 11 a.m. Ward 5 Reno City Councilmember Neoma Jardon will present the Proclamation officially designating May as Older Americans Month in the City of Reno to members of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee.
There will be a Chair Tai Chi session each Monday in May (with the exception of Memorial Day) at Somersett West Park. To ensure safety and social distancing, pre-registration is required at Reno.gov/Seniors, and space is limited. New and updated events will be added throughout the month at Reno.gov/Seniors.
“This last year has been hard on everyone, especially our seniors,” Jardon said. “Connecting with others plays a vital role in our health and well-being, so we wanted to offer a way for our senior community to reconnect this spring.”
Current COVID-19 mitigation measures, such as masks and social distancing, will be in effect at all City of Reno Older Americans Month activities where people gather.
Media who attend Monday’s event will also have the opportunity to see and tour one of Reno’s newest parks, Somersett West Park.
