The FAE-WFF Committee is looking at issues that are of high concern for western United States municipal fire departments, as wildland fires are increasing in the wildland urban interface area.
The traditional structure fire turnout coat and pants are not well suited to wildland firefighting due to the large geographic areas involved in wildland fires and the fast-moving nature of those fires. Traditional wildland gear is insufficient to protect firefighters from the hazards found in burning houses, garages and outbuildings commonly found in wildland urban interface areas. It is anticipated that this committee will consider those issues, among others.
