Reno Man Arrested For Attempted Murder After Fire At Farris Motel

Police arrested a man they say set a victim on fire March 5 in Reno.

RENO, NV - Reno Police say a man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and first degree arson after allegedly setting another man on fire March 5 in Reno. Antonio Garcia, 38 of Reno, was arrested Monday and charged with the crime.

According to RPD, Garcia told police his name was Jose Gomez, and an initial RPD release stated his name was Jose Gomez. After fingerprints were taken, police determined his real name to be Antonio Garcia.

Police said the investigation into the incident identified a suspect, and Garcia was located during an unrelated incident on Monday. According to a RPD release, "(Garcia) participated with an interview and at the conclusion of that interview was arrested for 1st degree arson and attempted murder."

The initial incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday, March 5 at the Farris Motel. When police arrived the found a male victim with "severe" burns. According to a Monday release from RPD, the victim's injuries are not considered life threatening, but he is still being treated at a burn care facility out of state.

This story was updated to correct the suspect's name, which RPD initially said was Jose Gomez, but later said is actually Antonio Garcia.
