Reno Music Shop Urging Musicians To Recycle Guitar Strings

Mountain Music Parlor will restring your guitar if you bring in your old strings on Saturday, April 21.

RENO, NV - Calling all eco-friendly musicians. April is Earth Month and you can help celebrate by recycling your used guitar strings at Mountain Music Parlor in Reno. The music house has partnered with recycling company TerraCycle to collect and recycle old guitar clippings.

On Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m., Reno musicians can bring in old guitar strings and have their guitars restrung for free. In return, TerraCycle will also make a donation to the D'Addario Foundation on the person's behalf; or loyalty points can be earned through the D'Addario Playback Program.

Thd D'Addario program seeks to eliminate the volume of metal waste in landfills. The company says that as much as 1.5 million pounds of musical string makes its way to landfills every year. To date this year, the program has recycled 1.7 million guitar strings.

“Me and my husband are serious recyclers too, so when the opportunity came to join the D’Addario Playback String Recycling Program it was a no brainer,” said Mountain Music Parlor owner Renee Lauderback. “Not to mention, the timing of the connecting the Restring Program with Earth day really hit a high not with me.”
