Senior living community supports local vets with donation

Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care Donates $3,750 to Northern Nevada Veterans Resource Center

As part of its mission to give back to the community it serves, Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to a local veterans’ organization. The community’s team members and residents selected the Northern Nevada Veterans Resource Center (NNVRC) and presented a $3,750 check to Justin Chavez, Regional Site Director and Cristina Crawford, Program Support Manager on Feb. 15.

The NNVRC provides case management and assistance obtaining other public benefits, as well as temporary financial assistance for rent payments, utility payments, security deposits and moving costs to low-income and extremely low-income veterans and family members.

According to Summit Estates’ Administrator, Amanda Jenkins, the donation aligns with the organization’s mission of Caring People, Serving People, Improving Lives, both at Summit Estates and within the local community.

“These veterans and family members are our neighbors,” explained Jenkins. “We’re thankful for their sacrifice, and we want to help them transition to civilian life so they can enjoy the freedoms and opportunities made possible by their service.”

“We consider ourselves fortunate that the local community is extremely generous when it comes to assisting our veterans in need,” said Chavez. “There is still so much work to be done to ensure that the brave men and women who served and continue to serve are taken care of - we cannot do this alone and that is why organizations like Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care are vital community partners in our mission to ending veteran homelessness.”

Summit Estates is one of five Mission Senior Living communities. Each community selected a local veterans’ organization to receive the donation. Together, the communities donated a total of $14,250.

“The people who live and work at our communities are cut from the same patriotic cloth. We are grateful to our nation’s heroes, and want to support organizations that help improve their lives,” said Darryl Fisher, president of Mission Senior Living. “Caring People, Serving People, Improving Lives is a mission that extends beyond our communities and into the neighborhoods we serve.”
