Permits for Short Term Rentals (STRs) will be available in Washoe County beginning May 1.

An online platform with permit applications, a “how-to guide” and video tutorials will be available here on the Washoe County website. Ordinances for STRs were adopted by the Washoe County Board of County Commissioners in March 2021 and establish requirements for short term rental properties, while mitigating impacts on the community.

“We know the community has questions about the new ordinances and the permitting process, and many of those questions are answered on our website,” Mojra Hauenstein, Washoe County director of Planning & Building, said. “We are working quickly to make the process and smooth as possible when the platform launches on May 1.”

There will be a three-month grace period for applicants in order to accommodate an anticipated large number of applicants, and full enforcement of the new ordinances will not begin until Aug. 1, 2021.

Updates, information and frequently asked questions are available here. Please check the site frequently for the latest information on permits, applications, instructions, tutorials, and additional resources.
