A rainstorm could bring flooding to western Nevada over the weekend, weather officials warned.

RENO, NV - The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a flood warning for the weekend. According to the NWS, a "very warm, wet storm" could cause flooding in creeks, streams, rivers, and urban areas in the Sierra and western Nevada region.

The warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Reno area starting Friday, April 6 at 5 p.m. until Sunday, April 8 at 5 a.m.

According to the NWS, up to four inches of rain could fall in the Sierra crest, with up to two and a half inches in the Tahoe basin, and an inch and a half in the Sierra foothills.

The advisory says that the Carson, Susan, and Truckee Rivers will experience increased flows. The storm will also bring wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60 miles per hour. The rain will cause normal runoff flooding, as well as additional water from melting snow.

Officials recommend clearing drainages, ditches, and gutters of debris and snow before the weekend; and to prepare for the extreme winds by securing outdoor furniture, temporary construction structures, and canopies.
