Guide To NH Mental Health And Substance Abuse Benefits Updated

Last updated in 2016, the 2020 resource guide expands advice for New Hampshire residents struggling with substance abuse and mental health.

CONCORD, NH — Mental health and drug treatment advocates are have released an updated guide for New Hampshirans who find themselves struggling. The 2o20 guide, which was last updated in 2016, was compiled by the mental health non-profit New Futures and the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law/Institute of Health Policy and Practice.

The new guide lays out the steps to find treatment, enroll in health insurance, make sure treatment services are covered, and appeal when coverage is denied, according to news release. The updated version also includes information about New Hampshire’s three Medicaid Managed Care Organizations.

"Getting help in a time of need can seem overwhelming, especially during a public health crisis like this," said Lucy Hodder, director of UNH Law’s Health Law and Policy Programs. "This guide includes critical information about health insurance and services to help individuals access the treatment they need and help providers advocate for their patients. It’s a critical resource for our state as we work to overcome COVID-19 and the ongoing substance use epidemic."
