Happy 233rd Birthday, New Hampshire

Today, New Hampshire celebrates 233 years as the 9th state admitted to the Union. To celebrate, we used Data-Z to find fun facts about New Hampshire and to learn more about the state.

According to our 2020 Financial State of the States report, New Hampshire ranked 24th. In the financial breakdown of New Hampshire, each taxpayer must pay $3,900 in future taxes without receiving services or benefits to get the state out of debt.

From 2015-2019, New Hampshire’s employment rate was at a steady increase. In 2019, New Hampshire’s employment rate was at 67 percent: the highest it has been over this 5-year period.

Although there is no record data for New Hampshire’s employment rate in 2020 or 2021, one can assume employment rates would drop due to COVID-19. Throughout the pandemic, we have seen unemployment rates skyrocket as many people have lost their jobs due to the unwavering challenges of the pandemic.

One fun fact about New Hampshire is that between 2014-2018 low-income children rates declined nearly by 12,000 children. Specifically, in 2018 the number of low-income children living in New Hampshire was 63,125. Hopefully, this number continues to decline in future years!

In 2020, bankruptcy filings for nonbusiness increased like never before seen. From 2019-2020 13,000 people in New Hampshire filed for bankruptcy. This increased rate of bankruptcy reflects the economic hardships New Hampshire residents faced at the beginning of COVID-19.
