Aladdin Junior To Be Performed At The Amato Center

Megan Dillon reflects on her senior project and her experiences in performing with Riverbend Youth Company

Souhegan Senior Focusses Senior Project on Theatre and reflects on performance experiences By Janine Leffler Every year Souhegan High School seniors work tirelessly on their senior projects focusing on something they are passionate about. For Megan Dillon that passion is musical theatre and her project’s essential question is “Why Is Theatre Education Essential?” When asked why she selected this essential question she replied, “I realized how deprived the Amherst community is of the arts, especially Souhegan High School. I am going to college for theater and I have not taken any classes for theater. Not because I didn't have time, and I didn't want to take it it's because it was never offered to me. And I want to change that for further students.” When asked if her current music direction project Aladdin Junior at the Amato Center was going to be her applied piece she said “Unfortunately I was not able to use Aladdin as my applied piece. To this day I am not sure 100% why.” She recently reflected on her theatre experiences saying the following ,“My favorite memory in the performance side I have to say is Wizard of Oz. I got to fulfill a little girl dream of mine and play Dorothy Gale. Not only that but I got to be with my best friend Matt Katsigianis and made wonderful relationships with Zac Barnaby and Ethan Reeves. They always supported me and I am forever gratefull about that. My favorite music directing moment is when the kids get to sing One Jump Ahead from Aladdin and just watching it, I can't even describe it. It's amazing.” She went on to say what she will miss the most about working on shows at the Amato Center. “Four words. Meghan McKnight and Matt Katsigianis. These two people have been my best friends since I started acting and I am forever grateful for them. I love them both to death.” Dillon has been accepted to Salve Regina University, St. Michaels’ University and Roger Williams University where she plans to study musical theatre. She has the following advice to people who are interested in getting involved in theatre “Never give up. Never. Ever. Do what you love. Always” When asked why people should come to see Aladdin Junior she stated “Everyone has put in so much effort into this and it's just a wonderful story.” Aladdin Junior will be performed at the Amato Center of the Performing Arts located at 56 Mt Vernon Street in Milford February 5th. 6th and 7th. Evening shows will be at 7:30pm and afternoon matinees will be at 2:30pm. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and seniors. For a whole new world of fun be sure to join us. Megan, your talent will surely be missed. Good luck in whatever the future will hold for you.
