Astronaut's Grissom's Letter Withdrawn from Auction

Letter was projected to bring in about $80,000, top bid was a fraction of that.

An astronaut's letter expressing resentment toward's John Glenn for being the pick for first American to orbit the Earth was up for auction at RR Auction of Amherst, but failed to sell when the minimum bid wasn't reached, according to The Republic of Columbus, Ind.

The letter, written by Mercury 7 astronaut Gus Grissom to his mother in 1961, was estimated to bring in around $80,000, but the high bid was $13,155. 

Grissom died in 1967 in a launch pad fire as he was prerparing for an Apollo launch.
