Police: Mont Vernon Man Was 'Texting' Before Fatal Hit and Run
The Telegraph reports that Travis Hobbs, 20, was arraigned for negligent homicide on Tuesday after he turned himself in to Amherst Police the same day.

A Mont Vernon man was arraigned on a charge of negligent homicide in Nashua District Court on Tuesday after he turned himself in to Amherst Police and told them he was texting on his cell phone when he struck and killed retired fire chief John Bachman on Monday, according to The Telegraph.
The Nashua newspaper reported that Travis Hobbs, 20, told Amherst Police that he thought he struck a snowbank with his car on Monday. Amherst Police say that Hobbs struck Bachman when he went to check his mail in front of his home on Merrimack Road. The Telegraph reported that Hobbs was freed on personal recognizance bail and ordered to stay with his parents until he is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on Jan. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
