President Obama to Give State of the Union Tonight

School district and town filing periods for March 11 election open until Friday; "Civil War Quilts" at the library tonight.

State of the Union Tuesday. President Barack Obama will give the annual State of the Union Address on Tuesday at 9 p.m. Stay tuned to Patch on Tuesday for reaction from New Hampshire political observers on both sides of the aisle.

School and town filing periods open: The filing periods for School Board and town candidates officially opened on Wednesday and will continue through Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.

"Civil War Quilts" at the library: On Tuesday, the Amherst Public Library will host Pam Weeks, curator of the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass. She will present a Power Point presentation on her first book, Civil War Quilts, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Winter Carnival set: The Amherst Board of Selectmen recently voted to hold the town's Winter Carnival on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Middle Road.

Indoor farmers market. The Indoor Milford Farmers Market is up and running for the winter and spring and will be open twice a month until late April.
