Show Us Where Your Elf on the Shelf is Spotted

Morning news and notes for Amherst on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

They're baaaack. The elves that come out of hiding between Thanksgiving and Christmas have returned to the homes of young children to keep an eye on their behavior during the holiday season, ready to report back to Santa any naughty behavior. Last year, on Merrimack Patch, we compiled a fun gallery of the different places Merrimack elves got tangled up in during the month, and we want to see your photos from Amherst! Send your photos to Carolyn.Dube@patch.com for an Elf on the Shelf visits in 2013 photo gallery. Share your elf's creativity with others. Don't forget to include your name for photo credit.

Shop Yankee Candle for a cause. The Amherst PTA, which encompasses Clark/Wilkins Elementary schools and Amherst Middle School, has a great deal for Yankee Candle lovers that will help the PTA's ongoing fundraising efforts. A Yankee Candle fundraising site is available for purchasing candles with a 40 percent of the proceeds coming right back into the community through the PTA. Pick up hostess gifts, holiday gifts or a great treat for yourself and know that you are also helping enrich the minds of the youngsters in Amherst's school district. To start shopping click here and use group number: 990054323 to get into the PTA shopping site.

Give a dog a loving home. The following is from the Humane Society for Greater Nashua: "We have a full house of amazing pets currently available for adoption, and in honor of that we will continue our special adoption fees on dogs throughout the month in what we are calling our "Home for the Holidays" promotion! All dogs 4 years old and up will be a reduced adoption fee of $50. There are so many wonderful personalities that are available and we would love to help you find the right fit for your home!"

Giving Tuesday. With the holiday shopping days like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday behind us, today's mission is to focus on giving. #GivingTuesday began last year as a grassroots way to help charities fundraise online. It's an opportunity for people to roll up their sleeves and help out a charitable organization or to pull out their credit and debit cards and be part of a growing philanthropic movement to give back this holiday season. Check out the #GivingTuesday websitefor more information. Check out a list of New Hampshire organizations that are participating in #GivingTuesday

Weather watch. More cloudy skies today, with patchy fog before 10 a.m. Expect a high near 44. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 27.
