Sports Authority Closing Amherst Store
The company notified a bankruptcy court that it was unable to reorganize; thousands of jobs to be lost; liquidation to begin this month.

AMHERST, NH - The Sports Authority chain of about 450 stores is expected to close and be liquidated later this month after it was unable to emerge from bankruptcy, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The paper reported last week that the company notified a bankruptcy court that it was not going to be able to reorganize and would liquidate and sell assets.
The company had originally hoped to close a third of its underperforming stores and reorg out of bankruptcy, according to press reports in March. About 3,400 jobs were estimated to be lost in the reorg, according to reports.
