5 Things To Know In Bedford This Week: Helicopters, Music Series
This week Bedford residents might see some drones and helicopters, and outdoor music will kick off in Bedford Village Common.
BEDFORD, NH — A presence of drones and helicopters might be seen in Bedford this week, and outdoor music will be heard in the park. And don't forget the property tax deadline. Here are the top five things to know in Bedford this week.
- Pack your cooler and bring a blanket — the weekly Concerts In The Park begin this week in Bedford Village Common. Some talented artists are scheduled to perform at the Market Basket band stand this summer. The kick-off event is this Thursday at 6 p.m., with Manchester Community Music School performing. The rest of the concerts will take place each Wednesday through Aug. 21. The concerts are free. The rain location for all performances is the Bedford Town Hall.
- If you see some drones or helicopters flying in town, don't be alarmed. It's probably Eversource conducting inspections. The utility company will be doing drone, ground line and helicopter transmission structure inspections starting Tuesday and continuing through Aug. 31. Residents may see the following contractors doing the work: Mesa Associates, Osmose Utilities Services and JBI Helicopters.
- Make sure to pay your property taxes by next week, and please avoid scammers. Tax bills are due Monday, July 1. Those who are late will have to pay 8-percent interest. And don't be fooled by potential scammers that have been calling Bedford residents this month — the town does not use a third party to collect taxes. If you’re unsure or have questions, call the Bedford Tax Collector’s Office at 603-472-3550.
- Residents will have a chance to bid farewell to Joanne Fraser this week as she retires from the Bedford Public Works Department. The community will celebrate her decades of service at noon this Thursday at the public library.
- Have hazardous household waste? Bring it to the Highway Garage at 19 Chubbuck Road in Bedford between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Chemicals acceptable for disposal include oil-based paints, pool chemicals, pesticides and paint thinners. Unacceptable items include asbestos, explosives, radioactive materials and road flares.
