Bedford, Milford Swimmers Suit Up For Assumption College
Bedford's Sydney Leyden, Milford's Alice Danas were both members of the Greyhounds squad at this weekend's opening meet at Boston College.
BEDFORD, NH — The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Sydney Leyden, of Bedford, and Alice Danas, of Milford, have been named to the Greyounds' women's swimming and diving team. Leyden, Class of 2023, and Danas, Class of 2022, are competing during the Greyhounds' 2019-20 season, which began at the Northeast Catholic Invitational on Oct. 4 and 5.
"We are looking forward to another successful season and defending our Northeast-10 Championship," said Richard Ludemann, who is in his first season as head coach. "We have a strong group of student-athletes who have worked hard in the offseason and are hoping to continue to dominate the conference, both in the pool and in the classroom. This team has a long record of All-American honors and community service that we will continue to execute this season."
Last season, the women's swimming and diving team captured the program's fourth Northeast-10 championship. Abbey Holmes, a senior this season, was named the NE10's Most Valuable Swimmer of the Championship Meet, while the since-graduated Shannon Quirk was the first simmer in conference history to win the same event (1,650 freestyle) four straight years. In January, the team earned Scholar All-America honors for the 23rd consecutive semester by posting a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
