Bedford Schools Could Start Late Bus Service
Students who stay after school for sports and activities in Bedford could have a new way home in the afternoon heading into next year.
BEDFORD, N.H. - Students who stay after school for sports and activities in Bedford could have a new way home in the afternoon heading into next year. According to the Union Leader, Principal Bill Hagen of Bedford High School proposed a two-bus pilot program that would take students home at either 4:15 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Although funding for the two late buses, a total of $15,000, has already been approved in the school district’s fiscal year 2019 budget, the school board has not yet voted on adopting the later bus schedule.
He said the buses could be valuable to students at Bedford High School and Lurgio Middle School who have after-school sports practice, stay for extra academic help or participate in school clubs or theater practice.

It would also be beneficial to parents who would otherwise have to make transportation plans for their students who are staying after school, said Hagen. If school officials approve his request, Hagen said the program could be implemented for the first quarter, at which time its usage could be reevaluated to determine if the late buses are beneficial and should continue for the remainder of the year.
