Bedford's New Fire Chief Sworn In
Scott Hunter, the new fire chief of Bedford, was sworn in Friday after Fire Chief Scott Wiggin retired after 49 years.

BEDFORD, NH — The town's new Fire Chief Scott Hunter was sworn in Friday after retirement of Fire Chief Scott Wiggin, who served the Bedford Fire Department for 49 years, being chief for the past 18 years. Hunter was promoted from the position of fire deputy chief earlier this month after a formal selection process. According to Town Manager Rick Sawyer, his vast knowledge of Bedford made him a great candidate for the chief's position.
Hunter has served on the Bedford Fire Department for the past seven years, having the roles of fire inspector, captain, deputy chief and now chief. He previously served 15 years with the New Boston Volunteer Fire Department, and nine years with the Hollis Fire Department. Since 2002, he also continues to serve as instructor at the New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training Academy.
"Scott's mix of experience in working with municipalities, teaching, and having served in so many positions here in Bedford has provided him with the foundation to be extremely successful as Chief," said Sawyer, who administered the fire chief oath to Hunter on Friday.

Hunter told Patch that his new challenge will be increasing communication over the next several months, and getting to know community's expectations of the Fire Department. In his new job, he will try to balance the needs and expectations of the town's civilianswith those of the Fire Department members, he said.
"I am looking forward to serving in the role of Fire Chief in support of all of our personnel and will be working hard to continue the excellence in service that the public expects in Bedford to maintain the safe place that we live and work," said Hunter.
