Bedford's State Rep. Michael Trento Resigns

Bedford Town Council will consider whether to hold a special election after state Rep. Michael Trento resigned.

BEDFORD, NH — The Bedford Town Council will consider holding a special election after the town's state Rep. Michael Trento recently resigned. Trento, a Republican, represented Hillsborough District 7. He won the state representative seat in November 2018.

The town will now consider whether to hold a special election to fill Trento's seat. The new state representative would be serving the rest of Trento's two-year term, said Town Clerk Sally Kellar.

If the council decides to hold a special election, approval would also be needed from the New Hampshire Executive Council. Kellar said that due to the process involved, that election would likely not take place until the fall. Primary elections for the seat would be required if there is more than one candidate in each party competing for the seat.

Special elections generally have a much lower turnout than regular elections, said Kellar. School will also be in session at that time.
