Driver Of 18-Wheeler Charged With DUI After Bedford Crash
A 47-year-old man from Fitzwilliam was arrested on several charges in connection with a tractor trailer crash in Bedford.

BEDFORD, NH — A driver of an 18-wheel tractor trailer was charged with impaired driving and hit-and-run after an accident on Route 101 in Bedford this weekend. James Baldwin, 47, of Fitzwilliam, was charged with DUI, conduct after an accident and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle. The accident occurred early Saturday morning on Route 101 in Bedford.
Police say that an officer parked in the center median of Route 101 early Saturday morning saw the tractor trailer turn onto Route 101 west and then heard a crash and a scraping sound. Police say Baldwin, who was driving the truck, struck a guard rail in the area of Old Bedford Road and then continued to drive erratically while swerving in traffic.
The officer stopped the truck on Route 101 near Bedford Center Road. Police say Baldwin had bloodshot eyes and the officer could smell alcohol. Baldwin failed sobriety tests, according to the Bedford police. After his arrest, officers found an open can of beer in the truck.

"Drinking and driving is always dangerous, but doing so while operating an 18-wheel tractor trailer unit is especially egregious," said Police Chief John Bryfonski. "I'm thankful that one of our officers was nearby and able to apprehend this individual before he potentially inflicted further damage or potentially serious injury to a fellow driver."
Baldwin was released on $40 personal recognizance bail after his arrest. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on July 9.
