Fire Crews Evacuate Street After Goffstown Gas Leak

Goffstown Fire crews were forced to evacuate area homeowners after a major gas leak on Fernwood Circle.

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. - Goffstown Fire crews were forced to evacuate area homeowners after a major gas leak on Fernwood Circle.

Goffstown Fire Dept. Chief Richard O'Brien said crews were called to the scene around 10 a.m. O'Brien said the gas leak occurred when a backhoe drove over and sheered the valve of an underground 500 lb propane tank at 16 Fernwood Circle.

As the tractor was running as the gas vapor began to pour out, O'Brien said, forcing fire crews to evacuate local homeowners immediately.

"When firefighters arrived the began dispersing the vapors, waiting for the gas company," he said. "When they arrived, gas crews stopped the leak."

O'Brien said an estimated 300 to 400 gallons of propane leaked out.

There were no injuries reported.
