New Bedford Teacher Contract: $1.2M Salary Hike
The Bedford School Board agreed to a two-year contract with the Bedford Education Association.

BEDFORD, NH — The Bedford School Board agreed to a new two-year contract with the local teachers' union that includes $1.2 million worth of salary increases, officials announced this week. The board unanimously approved the contract, as did a majority of members of the Bedford Education Association. The contract, which covers 2019 to 2021, also includes changes to healthcare benefits.
"The agreement reflects a longstanding commitment between the two parties to achieve excellence in education in Bedford's schools," the school board said in a statement.
The contract includes salary increases of $560,181 for the first year and $665,876 for the second year.

"The salary investments recognize the commitment of Association members and enhance Bedford's competitiveness in recruiting and retaining the top teaching talent in New Hampshire," the board added.
Said education association President Anne Koellmer, "We came to an agreement that benefits all sides. The negotiating members were respectful, professional, and fully aware that the students of Bedford need to be the center of all decisions. We recognize that to retain great teachers involves being competitive with salaries and benefits."

The contract is not finalized, as voters must still approve it during the town election March 12. The polls will be open that day at Bedford High School from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. More information about the contract will be detailed during the town deliberative session Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at Bedford High School.
