NH Kayaker Drowning: Alcohol Involved, Police Say

New Hampshire State Police said Anna Gdanian, of Manchester, drowned in the Piscataquog River.

MANCHESTER, NH — Alcohol played a role in a woman's drowning in the Piscataquog River in Manchester this week, according to New Hampshire State Police. Anna Gdanian, 32, of Manchester, was found dead by divers Friday morning.

Police were dispatched to the river Thursday at about 9 p.m.

"(Gdanian) was kayaking with three other adults in separate kayaks when she capsized and disappeared under the water," state police Lieutenant Crystal McLain said in a statement. "A woman on shore witnessed the capsizing and saw the victim’s companions unsuccessfully attempt to find her."

McLain added, "It appears that the consumption of alcohol and lack of personal flotation device may have been factors in this incident, however all aspects remain under investigation."
