NH Residents Warned To Be Wary Of Potential Puppy Scam

Manchester Police said a man reported paying nearly $1,700 to have a puppy shipped from North Carolina that never arrived.

BEDFORD, NH — Manchester Police are warning New Hampshire residents about an online puppy scam that left a local resident out nearly $1,700 and no new little buddy by his side. Police said a man told them he wired two payments through Western Union for a dog that was supposed to be shipped from North Carolina, but that he later found out from airport officials that there was no information about any puppy being sent.

Manchester Police said the man filing the report told them he wired $549 for a puppy advertised on a website. He said he was then contacted for nearly another $1,000 for a special crate needed to ship the dog from Charlotte, NC. Police said he told them he became suspicious after the second payment and when he called the airport where the puppy was to arrive was told there was no record of any dogs onboard.

Those buying any goods online are advised to meet any seller before sending money for a product. But, if that is not possible, customers should make sure to verify there is a physical address from any business where they are making a purchase. Customers are urged never to simply send money upfront, and to be wary that if any deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
