NH State Police: 41 DUIs Over July 4th Holiday
New Hampshire State Police said officers issued 1,301 speeding tickets and 123 mobile device use tickets over the July 4th holiday.

NEW HAMPSHIRE — New Hampshire State Police said officers made 41 drunk-driving arrests and issued 1,300 speeding tickets over the July 4 holiday. There were no fatal crashes on the state's major highways, though there was a fatal crash July 4 in Belmont on Route 106, when two people were killed.
State police deployed special patrols for the busy holiday week. Officers conducted 5,232 vehicle stops and issued 1,301 speeding tickets, police said. Officers also cited 123 drivers for using mobile devices while driving.
Of the 41 drunk-driving arrests, one involved a teenager who drove an all-terrain vehicle on Interstate 93. The teen, who tried to run from cruisers, was arrested after he ran out of gas, police said. Two drivers were also cited for driving more than 100 mph on I-93.

"We want to thank all those who traveled safely and courteously during the past week," State Police Major John Encarnacao said in a statement. "The New Hampshire State Police are committed to ensuring safe travel throughout the state and will continue our efforts to reduce traffic collisions during the upcoming summer months."
