Obituary: Longtime Muir Lumber Employee, 89

BEDFORD - Florence R. Newell, 89, of Bedford and Venice, Fla., died surrounded by her family on Sept. 29, 2013, at Bentley Commons after a long illness.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1923, in Somerville, N.J., the daughter of Stanley and Sophie Sabotka. She grew up in Somerville, N.J., and was educated in the local school system.

Florence was very active and loved music, singing, dancing and was an avid reader. She was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for Muir Lumber and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Members of her family include her husband of 71 years, Herbert F. "Bert" Newell Jr. of Bedford; her two sons, Herbert Newell III and his wife, Barbara, of Manchester, and Mark Newell and his wife, Gail, of Bedford; her daughter, Lynda Tunberg and her husband, Alan, of Methuen, Mass.; her eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Home Health and Hospice and Bentley Commons for the loving care she received.
