Man Dies In Bedford Gas Incident: Police
A man has died in Bedford after police say gas was intentionally turned on in a Galloway Lane home, resulting in an evacuation.

BEDFORD, NH — A man died Tuesday afternoon, during the emergency gas situation in the area of Galloway Lane in Bedford. The area of the scene was evacuated after police went to a home to check on a male, finding him with a large knife in the garage amid a strong smell of gas, according to police. After an evacuation and entering the scene with tactically equipped firefighters, police determined the man was dead, according to a statement released late Tuesday afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation. Police say they initially responded to Galloway Lane at approximately 1:10 p.m., evacuating the immediate area and setting up a temporary shelter due to the gas odor. The road was closed to traffic. At 2:15 p.m., they sent an alert that the temporary shelter was lifted, but drivers were still asked to find alternative routes and to avoid the area.
The name of the man who died has not been released. Police say it appears the gas was turned on intentionally in the home.
