BEDFORD, NH - A search for a 4-year-old Manchester boy has been suspended in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina after he was swept out to sea. According to a post on the Kitty Hawk Police Dept. Facebook page, the boy was swept away from his mother into the ocean and carried away by the current.

"A tragic accident occurred today in Kitty Hawk. Under the watchful eye of the attending parents while walking along the shore, a four year old boy was swept from his mother into the ocean and carried away by the current," Kitty Hawk Police Chief Joel Johnson wrote. "As parents, this is our worst nightmare, even for those of us who love and have grown up by the ocean. Please join us in thought and prayer for this family as we mourn with them the loss and give thanks for the well-being of our own children."

Chief Johnson told reporters the boy and his family were vacationing at the Outer Banks and was standing in ankle deep water when a rogue wave knocked him over. A second wave swept him away from his mother, he said.
