Unprepared Massachusetts Hikers Rescued In NH
New Hampshire officials said a Massachusetts couple without flashlights and other essential hiking gear were rescued in the White Mountains.

LINCOLN, NH — An unprepared Massachusetts couple hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire over the weekend were rescued after they became lost, officials said. The 30-year-old Winthrop man and 25-year-old Boston woman were rescued on the Garfield Ridge Trail in Lincoln Saturday night.
"They were dressed in shorts and t-shirts and had limited gear and supplies with them," New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a statement. "They also did not have any flashlights or headlamps with them ... The hikers did not have the proper gear to stay overnight in the mountains in the conditions they encountered. They failed to bring a map, compass, GPS, extra clothing, enough water, or enough food with them."
The couple were hiking on the Falling Waters Trail when they became lost at about 8:30 p.m. and called 911 for help, officials said. Officers were able to guide the couple over the phone and later located them safe at about 10:45 p.m.
