YMCA Gymnastic Championships Held Next Weekend

MANCHESTER, NH - More than 1,000 athletes from across the Northeast will journey to the campus at Saint Anselm’s College in mid-May as the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown plays host to the 2016 YMCA Northeast Regional Gymnastics Championships Friday, May 13, to Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Sullivan Arena, according to a press statement.

Gymnasts will perform in a variety of competitions throughout the weekend. An estimated 1,200 young athletes from 6 to 18 years of age from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Maine and New Hampshire will be in attendance. The YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown will be sending 50 of their own gymnasts to the championships to participate.

”We are thrilled to be able to host this event,” said Meg Norklun, Gymnastics Director of the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown and Host Director for the Championships. “The competition is one of the many ways these kids will measure their success. Our focus at the YMCA goes beyond teaching the competitive aspect of the sport and focusses on the development of the whole child.”

The competition, which is free and open to the community, kicks off each session with a parade of athletes. Events take place starting on Friday afternoon (May 13) and continue on all day on Saturday and Sunday (May 14-15).

The competition will take place in Sullivan Arena on the campus of Saint Anselm College. The college is located at 100 St. Anselm Drive in Manchester.

“Spectators will get the opportunity to see some very talented athletes in action as well as experience the wonderful sport of gymnastics,” added Norklun.
