2 Injured In Route 101 Crash In Exeter: NH State Police

EXETER, NH — A morning crash on Route 101 in Exeter sent two to the hospital Thursday, according to New Hampshire State Police. Troopers, Exeter police and fire and rescue teams, as well as Hampton firefighters were called to the eastbound side of Route 101 near Exit 12 for a report of a truck crash around 7:45 a.m. According to Lt. John Hennessey of Troop A, a Subaru Forester, being driven by a woman from Manchester, rear-ended a Peterbilt tractor-trailer, being driven by a 70-year-old Sandown man.

"As traffic slowed, the trailer portion of his vehicle was struck in the rear by the Forester," he said. "Traffic on the section of roadway typically slows as heavy commuter traffic approaches the Interstate 95 exit."

Both drivers were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers closed the section of roadway and diverted traffic for about an house, Hennessey said.

"As a result of this collision, increased traffic congestion contributed to a separate five vehicle collision just west of the initial incident," he said. "This collision was relatively minor in nature and resulted in no injuries."
