Keystone Pipeline Vote

What is happening now?

In a nutshell: After 6 years of Washington talking about the tar-sands pipeline they are finally taking votes in both Senate and House now to approve the project.

  • The US House of Representatives voted yesterday: in favor 252, against 151.
  • The legislation now moves to the Senate for a vote next week.
  • Then Obama may or may not veto whatever they decide. (He is said to take a “dim view” of the legislation, and last week made an historic climate agreement with the Chinese to try to mitigate climate change.)

400K regular people marched on NYC this past September (at the People’s Climate March organized by 350.org) to say NO PIPELINE. http://online.wsj.com/articles/thousands-attend-peoples-climate-march-in-new-york-city-1411324590

The Rosebud Sioux tribe is declaring passage of the pipeline an act of war against their nation, citing treaties from 1851 and 1868. http://lakotavoice.com/2014/11/15/house-vote-in-favor-of-the-keystone-xl-pipeline-an-act-of-war/

It is said the Koch Brothers stand to make a mint if the project is passed. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/03/20/the-biggest-land-owner-in-canadas-oil-sands-isnt-exxon-mobil-or-conoco-phillips-its-the-koch-brothers/

This is a vote that our grandchildren will have to live with, for better or worse.
