Outdoor Nature Festival Coming To Epping

For those who like to spend time outdoors, TrailFest will offer 5K and 10K courses and nature-based activities at Burley Farms in Epping.

EPPING, NH — A daylong nature celebration is coming to Epping on Sept. 21. TrailFest, presented by Southeast Land Trust (SELT), will take place at Burley Farms. The event will feature a 5K and a 10K walk/run through the farm's grassy meadows and forest trails, with a course designed for both new and experienced participants.

The Sept. 21 race will begin at 9:30 a.m. Online registration will be open through Sept. 19. The cost for is $35 the 5K race and $45 for the 10K race. A free 1K race for the kids will also be offered.

Entry to the festival part of the event is free. Post-race activities are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with guided nature walks and nature-based activities for children, including face painting, scavenger hunts, exhibits, lawn games and presentations by Jane Kelly of On the Wing and the Center for Wildlife from York, Maine.

Participants are encouraged to spend the whole day at the TrailFest and bring a picnic or purchase local fare from the vendors. Throwback Brewery will also be on hand offering craft beer, and Flag Hill Distillery & Winery will offer local wine. Water stations will be available, and participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to help reduce waste.

"For those of us who like to get outside and explore, TrailFest is a great way to help support efforts to protect open spaces for people and nature," said Zoe Aldag, volunteer and outreach manager for SELT. "Many participants are getting their friends, families and neighbors to pledge a donation for their run. It's really great to see such excitement for SELT's work to protect important regional lands."

Beverly Shadley, SELT's development director, said a fundraising match has recently been added to the donation efforts.

"That means that any dollar donated to TrailFest or to a race participant will be doubled up to $10,000," said Shadley. "Our donors always appreciate the opportunity to double the impact of their giving.
