Sen. Shaheen’s Mother, Belle Bowers, has Passed Away

Bowers, 94, died in Somersworth on Thursday night. Calling hours will be held Oct. 26, in Dover.

MANCHESTER, NH — U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, released the following statement about the passing of her mother on the evening of Oct. 20, 2016, in Somersworth.

"I am incredibly grateful for the expressions of sympathy from friends and Granite Staters ‎while my family reflects on my mother's life," said Shaheen. "At 94, my mother lived a full life surrounded by family and loved ones. We will miss her greatly."

Bowers was a native of Washington state.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Wiggin-Purdy Funeral Home in Dover. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at Dover Baptist Church.

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, offered condolences to the Shaheen family this afternoon.

“As a wife, mother and devoted member of her church, Belle was an incredible woman, and I'm sure she was so proud to see her daughter Jeanne accomplish so much – becoming the first woman to serve as both governor and Senator in New Hampshire history,” she said. “Joe and I extend our deepest condolences to Jeanne, her husband Bill and the entire Shaheen family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
