What Do You Have to Say About Hampton Beach Tragedy?

Over the last 24 hours, Exeter area residents have made several comments on Facebook and in the comment stream about the tragic accident that happened at Hampton Beach that claimed the lives of two bicyclists.

Here is what Lisa Madden had to say on Facebook: "The only way for anything to share a vehicle road is if the non-vehicle can get off the road when a vehicle is coming. When I walk on a busy road, when a car comes, I step off to the side, into the grass if necessary. The roads were built specifically for vehicles, unless of course pedestrian and bicycle paths have been added. Putting a slow-moving two-wheeled contraption in front of a large, fast-moving piece of steel is a recipe for disaster. What is really amazing is that the above doesn't happen more often, and that is probably due to the driver's not wanting to kill anyone than it is to the biker's who pay no attention to the cars lining up behind them trying to pass. I am all for exercise, but biker's need to find safe roads."

Bob LaFreniere offered these comments on Facebook: "The roads were built for legal public use which legally includes cycling. I ride on lots of roads and the roads do not worry me. It is safe drivers and cyclists both that I desire!"
