Boil Order Issued For Hampton-Area Aquarion Water Customers
The Aquarion Water Company has issued a boil order for Hampton, North Hampton and Rye customers due to E. coli contamination.
HAMPTON, NH — Aquarion Water Company has issued notice to customers in Hampton, North Hampton and Rye, asking them to boil water before drinking it. The boil order was issued due to contamination of E. coli bacteria. According to information released by Hampton officials, E. coli were detected in one of 10 samples collected in the Hampton system on Wednesday.
According to the boil notice, Aquarion is still investigating the cause of the contamination. The presence of E. coli typically signifies the presence of human or animal feces in the water.
Customers of the water service are asked to boil their water for at least two minutes and letting it cool before use, until further notice. Boiling water is requested before drinking, washing dishes, preparing food, making ice or preparing infant formula.

At this time it is unclear how many customers have been affected. Aquarion officials could not be immediately reached for comment. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
