‘Bomb Cyclone’ Nor’easter Heading To NH: NWS Alert
Breaking: Forecasters are warning of high wind gusts, freezing rain, coastal flooding, and power outages on Friday.

GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service has issued alerts for both inland and coastal New Hampshire communities warning of a “bomb cyclone” nor’easter heading into the state. The alerts – which were issued at around 3 p.m. on March 1, 2018 – warn of a coastal storm heading into New England beginning on Friday morning. Snow is expected in the northern areas of the state.
“Confidence is increasing on the storm track and temperatures at this time and will likely result in minimal precipitation impacts to the region,” according to the alert.
As much as two inches of rain is expected in most southern areas of the state by the end of the storm.

Coastal flooding is expected to run from 9 a.m. on Friday until 2 p.m. on Saturday and will likely occur across several high tide cycles. Hampton high tides are forecast for around 11:21 a.m. and 11:52 p.m. and again at 12:11 p.m. on Saturday.
“High water may have difficulty receding around Hampton as easterly winds keep the high tide piled up in the bay through low tide,” according to the alert. “In addition to coastal flooding, long period swell over the course of several tide cycles will lead to significant splash-over and coastal erosion.”

A high wind warning has also been issued for most of the southern part of the state with wind gusts in the central part of the state expected to be as high as 40 mph. On the seacoast, wind gusts could climb to 60 mph.
“Strong wind gusts and a saturated ground may lead to downed trees and limbs, resulting in power outages,” forecasters noted.
