Robert Curtis started his military career in 1968, just as the Vietnam war was heating up. Knowing he would likely be drafted, Curtis decided to take his fate into his own hands and signed up before he could be. He walked into the recruiting office with no knowledge of flying and walked out a pilot in the U.S. Army. Curtis didn’t know the magnitude of what he had just signed up for; only 53% of airman made it out of Vietnam alive. Despite the odds, he made it back home to his family at the end of the war and applied to college. But he didn’t quit there, even after coming face to fave with death uncountable times, Curtis had fallen in love with flying and enlisted in the National Guard while he was in college. Over the course of his 24 years of military service, Major Curtis served as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, National Guard, and Royal Navy and now he is sharing stories of his adventures during this time with you.
The owner of Smoky Quartz Distillery, Kevin Kurland comes from a family of veterans, his father, his brother and uncles all served in the U.S. military forces. In fact, Kevin first got the idea to open a distillery in the summer of 2008 while serving as an airman for the US military in Iraq. One day while he was passing time taking cover from frequent periods of indirect fire from the enemy, Kevin stumbled upon a Wall Street Journal article about the explosive business of craft distilling in the U.S. Smoky Quartz distillery officially opened it’s doors in May 2014 much to the delight of a few dozen friends and family members awaiting the distillery’s first mash made with 100% locally grown corn. Now, with four handcrafted spirits to offer, Smoky Quartz Distillery is trailblazing its own path in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with plans to expand distribution to other states in the U.S. The Seabrook, New Hampshire distillery is open to the public with a tasting room, gift shop area. Bottles of the distillery spirits can be purchased as well. As a way of honoring his fellow veterans, the distillery offers a 10% Veterans Discount exclusively to those who have served in the military.
