Maine Juvenile Arrested By New Hampshire Troopers On DWI Charge

HAMPTON, NH — A juvenile from Maine, accused of stealing a truck from Waterville, and driving drunk on an Interstate in New Hampshire, is facing a slew of charges after being arrested Thursday.

At just before 7 a.m., a state trooper saw a flatbed truck "traveling at a high rate of speed" on southbound side of Interstate 95 in Greenland. The trooper turned on his cruiser's emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle — but the truck would not stop, according to a report.

"The operator continued southbound, using several lanes of the Interstate and operating erratically," Lt. John Hennessey said. "The vehicle, identified as a 2014 Chevrolet flatbed truck, exited Interstate 95 at the Exit 2 off-ramp to Route 101 in Hampton. Upon reaching the toll plaza, the driver stopped and was subsequently taken into custody."

The driver, it turned out, was a juvenile from Maine, and state police accused them of stealing the truck from Ware-Butler Inc. of Waterville, Maine, according to the trooper's preliminary investigation.

The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, disobeying an officer, operating without a valid license, and transporting alcohol by a minor. They are due in Hampton District Court Sept. 17. The incident remains under investigation and more charges could be forthcoming, Hennessey added.
