All Planet Fitness gyms across the country, including 17 New Hampshire locations, will be free for teenagers ages 15 to 18 this summer. The company's "Teen Summer Challenge" started as a test in the Granite State in 2018 and was expanded nationwide this year. The company said 2,500 New Hampshire teens logged 12,000 gym visits during the challenge last year.

"We want to give teens the chance to stay active when school is out — a time when they may not otherwise have access to organized fitness or athletic programs, which is why we're offering a safe space to exercise for free and spend time with their friends all summer long," said Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau in a statement. The company is based in Hampton and operates more than 1,700 gyms.

Teens can sign up for the program starting May 15 by visiting their local gym. Teens under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent during signup.
