This local veteran-owned business took home two silver medals at the American Craft Spirit Awards

Seabrook, NH—This week, Smoky Quartz Distillery took home two big wins at the American Craft Spirits Awards. Their Granitie Coast Rum was awarded a silver medal and the V5 Bourbon also won a silver medal in the whiskey category. As a relatively new business, this is quite the accomplishment. We look forward to seeing what comes next for this quickly growing local favorite.
The American Craft Spirits Association is a registered non-profit trade group representing the U.S. craft spirits industry whose mission is To elevate and advocate for the community of craft spirits producers. Each year their members vote on their favorite craft spirits from around the country. Smoky Quartz Distillery is incredibly honored to be recognized by this discerning group of individuals and hopes next year to win gold!
The award-winning Granite Coast Rum is described as being Crystal clear with an almost imperceptible gold. Swirling the spirit leaves a delicate ‘sheet’ of spirit in the glass that quickly descends down the glass wall. Although it can be used as a “sipping rum” it also pairs nicely with tropical dishes. The V5 Bourbon is incredibly smooth, but also flavorful, with hints of vanilla and spice. It is made in small batches using only 100% organic locally-grown corn. Owner of Smoky Quartz Distillery, Kevin Kurland first got the idea to open a distillery in the summer of 2008 while serving as an airman for the US military in Iraq. One day while he was passing time taking cover from frequent periods of indirect fire from the enemy, Kevin stumbled upon a Wall Street Journal article about the explosive business of craft distilling in the U.S. Smoky Quartz distillery officially opened it's doors in May 2014 much to the delight of a few dozen friends and family members awaiting the distillery’s first mash made with 100% locally grown corn. Now, with four handcrafted spirits to offer, Smoky Quartz Distillery is trailblazing its own path in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with plans to expand distribution to other states in the U.S. The Seabrook, New Hampshire distillery is open to the public with a tasting room, gift shop area. Bottles of the distillery spirits can be purchased as well. It can also be found in NH liquor stores. As a way of honoring his fellow veterans, the distillery offers a 10% Veterans Discount exclusively to those who have served in the military.
