Tragic End To Missing North Hampton Dog Case

A dog named "Sophie" went missing from its North Hampton residence last week; the dog was later struck by a car and died.

NORTH HAMPTON, NH — The case of a missing North Hampton dog ended in tragedy this week. "Sophie" went missing from its home last week and survived a massive snowstorm and arctic temperatures as volunteers searched for her over the weekend. The dog died after being hit by a car Tuesday night, police said.

Police and animal welfare organizations publicized the search for the dog on social media and several sightings were reported.

"The North Hampton Police Department sends our deepest sympathy to Sophie's family," police said in a statement. "We have no doubt that our community is mourning with you."
