Unitil: We Don’t Endorse Suppliers
Company has received "multiple reports" of third-party suppliers saying they work for the electric and natural gas company.

HAMPTON, NH — A local utility company that offers electricity to communities in New Hampshire, including Concord, Exeter, Hampton, and North Hampton, is warning its customers that they should be “suspicious” of outside vendors claiming to be working with the company. During the last few weeks, Unitil customers have reported “multiple calls” of individuals going door-to-door, speaking with customers, and claiming to be working with or on behalf of Unitil.
The company, in a statement, said it does not work with other suppliers. New Hampshire allows customers to sign with independent contractors for the supply portion of their electric bills. Those contracts, according to Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara, don’t have a business impact on Unitil, since it is a distribution utility. It also does not endorse one supplier over another.
“These reports have us concerned that there’s a business out there misrepresenting its relationship with Unitil, and we feel it is important to make sure customers are aware,” O’Meara said. “Unitil representatives would not endorse a specific contract from a third-party supplier; if a person comes to your door to try and get you to sign a contract with a specific supplier, that person does not work for Unitil.”
