Wrong-Way Hampton Crash: Massachusetts Driver Charged

NH State Police said man was injured when a Massachusetts driver went the wrong way on Route 101 and hit him head-on.

HAMPTON, NH -- A Massachusetts driver was cited after police said she drove the wrong way on Route 101 in Hampton Friday morning and crashed head-on into another vehicle. Lorraine Ward, 42, of Newburyport, was charged with reckless conduct. She was not injured.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 55-year-old Sandown man, was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to New Hampshire State Police Lt. John Hennessey.

Ward was driving a Ford Escape sport utility vehicle Friday at about 4 a.m. on Route 101 west when she suddenly veered into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with the Sandown man, who was driving a Honda CR-V SUV, Hennessey said.
