Derry Teen Hurt After Falling Off Boat On Lake Winnipesaukee

An 18-year-old from Derry was hurt after falling off a boat and being struck by the vessel on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford.

GILFORD, NH — A Derry teen was injured after falling off a boat on Lake Winnipesaukee and being struck by the vessel, State Police say. The accident occurred Friday night near Lakeshore Park in Gilford. The 18-year-old was transported to the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia for treatment.

State Police Marine Patrol Communications received a 911 call reporting the accident around 10:42 p.m. Friday. According to police, the accident occurred while seven people were onboard a 20-foot pontoon boat, operated by a 19-year-old man. When the boat was returning to dock, the 18-year-old passenger from Derry lost his balance, fell overboard and the boat struck his leg.

After getting help getting back onto the boat, the group returned to shore and the injured teen was evaluated by Gilford fire and rescue personnel. He was transported to the Laconia hospital for treatment.
