'Disturbing' Sexual Assaults Claimed Against Pinkerton Students
"Deeply disturbing" sexual assault allegations are being investigated at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
DERRY, NH — Police and school officials are looking into "deeply disturbing" allegations of sexual assault against some Pinkerton Academy students, according to Headmaster Timothy Powers. The assaults, reported to school officials Wednesday and Thursday, were reportedly committed by other Pinkerton students, he said in a letter to the community this week.
"These allegations are deeply disturbing, and they do not reflect our school community's shared values or our expectations," he said.
In his letter, Powers stated that some students may organize a walkout or another form of protest on Friday in response to the sexual assault allegations. Powers said the school encourages students to use their voices in a peaceful and constructive manner, and that school staff would not discourage a protest, assuming the event does not interrupt the day-to-day operations of the school.

"We expect all students to be seated in their classrooms at the start of school," Powers stated.
Powers said that upon learning of the reports, Pinkerton officials reported the claims to N.H. Department of Children and Youth Services. School officials are also cooperating with the police investigation of the incidents, according to his letter, dated Thursday.

Powers has asked the community to protect the confidentiality of all involved, saying school officials are limited in what they can say about the allegations, due to the nature of the reported incidents and the ongoing investigations.
"If you are aware of a situation — connected to these matters or otherwise — that requires our attention, we are here to help," said Powers.
Those who would like to report report inappropriate behavior or discuss any concerns are asked to call a Pinkerton administrator at 603-437-5200. School officials will maintain the privacy of anyone who contacts them as far as they are able, said Powers.
School officials are also encouraging those with any information to contact School Resource Officer Jeff Dawe during school hours, or the Derry police at 603-432-6111 at any time.
