A longtime Londonderry police dog passed away unexpectedly​ on Friday, according to police.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. - A longtime Londonderry police dog passed away unexpectedly on Friday, according to police.

In a Facebook post, Londonderry Police announced that retired K-9 Mingo passed away unexpectedly at home yesterday May 11. Mingo had been retired from active duty since August 1, 2017, according to police.

K-9 Mingo joined the Londonderry Police Department in February of 2010 as a patrol canine and a narcotic detection canine. The dog was also a member of the Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit.

"During his career Mingo found lost, missing and suicidal people. He also found many suspects wanted for committing crimes as well as illegal contraband and narcotics and participated in dozens of community events and demonstrations," police wrote.

According to the post, Mingo spent his last few days at home relaxing with his handler.

"Rest In Peace Mingo and thank you for your service. You will be missed," the post read.
